Established in 1972, the Magnetic Springs Bottled Water Company is a third-generation, family-owned bottled water producer and distributor serving Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, and the entire state of Ohio. The company was named for and originally located in Magnetic Springs, Ohio, once a popular vacation getaway that was well known for its healing springs and bath houses during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today, with production facilities in Columbus, Cleveland, and Dayton, we are well positioned to provide outstanding customer service to the residents and businesses that call Ohio home. Our Story

It all started in 1972

James and Beverly Allison purchased Magnetic Springs Water Co. in 1973, just a year after it was established. The company originated in Magnetic Springs, Ohio, the location of a natural spring that was known for its rich mineral content. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the town of Magnetic Springs was home to many bath houses. The Magnetic Springs water company purchased the Ballard Hotel and Spa and used it as the initial location for producing bottled water. Many people believed the water had healing powers, a quality that attracted several presidents and dignitaries, as well as football teams from The Ohio State University and Purdue University.

In the late 1970s, the company moved to a 5,000-square-foot production facility on the west side of Columbus. During this time, the water was transported by truck from Magnetic Springs to Columbus. By the early 1980s, however, the company relocated to a new 20,000-square-foot production facility, also in Columbus. At that time, the company stopped using spring water from Magnetic Springs due to its high mineral content, opting instead to purchase spring water from a protected spring in southern Ohio.

Over the years, James built on his significant experience in customer development, and along with the family, successfully grew the company to its present configuration of more than 40 employees. Today, the 110,000-square-foot facility located on Joyce Avenue in Columbus is dedicated to the company’s purification and bottling expertise and its corporate offices. A second 10,000-square-foot production facility located in Middleburg Heights makes it possible to provide the best water delivery service to customers in the Cleveland area. A 3rd 5,500-square-foot facily makes convenient to provide the highest quailty service to customers in Dayton. Throughout the years, the company has purchased numerous other bottled water companies, including Columbus Water Cooler, Puro Filled Water and Cherry Knolls Water in Cleveland, and many other smaller distributors.

Currently, three generations of the Allison family, including original owner Beverly Allison, her children and grandchildren, run the company and remain committed to a longstanding tradition of delivering quality products and exceptional customer service. Many employees have been with the company for more than 10 years, and some for more than 25 years. Together we take great pride in our city, state and federal inspections and certifications, as well as certifications from the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQF).
